Bar-Ilan University and the Global Board of Trustees of Bar-llan
are deeply saddened by the passing of

Dr. Mordecai (“Morty”) Katz

Previous Chairman of the Board of Trustees, longstanding board member and pillar of the university.
Morty, together with his wife, Dr. Monique Katz, were long term, staunch pillars of our University,
and initiated many important capital and academic projects at Bar-llan. During his tenure as Chairman,
the University saw unprecedented growth and achievements.
Morty’s personal ideals and steadfast commitment to Jewish education and values helped shape the very nature and identity of Bar-llan University. He leaves a lasting legacy of Chessed and Philanthropy globally,
and his leadership will be sorely missed.
The extended Bar-llan family sends heartfelt condolences to Dr. Monique Katz and children,
Dr. Rachel Katz (Dr. Robert Sidlow), Michael Katz (Elissa), Gail Katz (Mayer Bick),
and Debra Katz (Yechiel Newman) and grandchildren.
May they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Ohr Torah Stone mourns the passing of

Mordecai (Mordy) Katz z”l

Mordy was a gentle giant, a visionary of exceptional intelligence who knew how to think strategically
and turn dreams into action. An engineer in the aerospace industry, Mordy understood that the task
of the Jewish people is to unite heaven and earth. He gave generously and lived modestly.
May his memory continue to inspire us.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Monique (Nicky) Katz, and his children:
Michael and Elissa Katz, Drs. Rachel Katz and Robert Sidlow, Gail Katz and Mayer Bick,
and Debbie Katz and Yechiel Newman and many loving grandchildren.

It is with great sorrow and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved mother, Tziporah bat Yitzchak HaCohen’v Rachel,

Fela Shapell z”l

who joins her husband David z’l in eternal rest in the holy soil of Eretz Yisrael.
She will be greatly mourned by her children, Rochelle Shapell, Benjamin Shapell, Irvin Shapell and their spouses,
by her nine grandchildren and her 13 great grandchildren.
Shiva will be observed at 104 HaEshel Street, Herzliya, during the following times: Sunday, February 21st, Monday, February 22nd, and Tuesday, February 23rd,
